Objectives
Students will be able to accurately identify contributions of significant figures that have influenced the local community by creating a PowerPoint presentation or brochure after completing the virtual tour.
Introduction
Teacher will show video of “Kid President: How to Change the World (a work in progress”. Teacher and students will have a brief discussion of discrimination in the world in past and present, and explain how Alabama was impacted by it. The discussion should also introduce the Civil Rights Movement in Alabama.
Activities/ Procedures
After watching video and having discussion, the teacher will introduce the virtual tour and a give a brief description.
Teacher will then explain how to navigate the virtual tour and any explain any expectations of the virtual tour.
Expectations can include remaining quiet, asking for help, etc.
After demonstrating virtual tour, teach will give a brief description of the assignment assigned after completing the virtual tour.
Students may need help with vocabulary and other information throughout virtual tour.
Students will begin working on virtual tour and teacher will help as needed.
After students complete virtual tour they will begin working on PowerPoint/brochure assignment and teacher will help as needed.
Main Activities Assessment
Students will create a PowerPoint slide show or a brochure on an influential individual discussed on either “field trip stop” from the virtual tour (from the Civil Rights Memorial or Rosa Parks Museum). Students will be creating the presentations to highlight the individuals life and their contributions that have influenced the local community.
